   I’m pretty bothered that you called this “domestic violence,” which appears to be your invention, not the artist’s. While I’m sure you meant nothing by it, I wish you’d been standing beside me last night when a man came toward a store I was entering, grabbing his wife by the arm and shouting at her, threatening to punch her for almost breaking his umbrella. The door attendant called a manager. The man calmed down so the police would not come. I suspect he beat the crap out of his wife as soon as they got home.

   Domestic violence is not a catch phrase, or a buzz word, or a joke. Please do not make it any of those things.

   The fact that you did this thoughtlessly and without “meaning anything by it” is the worst part of it. We need to think about this. It’s not something we should just ignore, as 7 of the 8 people outside the store did last night. (It was raining and we were waiting for others to park the cars).
